In an area filled with coffee shops, clothing boutiques, and sit-down restaurants, a new kid is coming to downtown Fargo this spring. Scoop N Dough Candy Co. is a new business founded by Josh Ulrich that will be serving up edible cookie dough, hard serve ice cream, different kinds of popcorn, shakes, and candy galore.
With the culture in downtown booming, Ulrich was not always sure if that is where he wanted to set up shop. With there being more traffic on 13th Ave., new businesses and homes continuing to sprawl further south, Ulrich felt that deciding on location was a difficult situation.
In the end, downtown was the place he wanted to be. “[Downtown Fargo] is an area where people are out and about, shopping, and walking around. That’s the kind of area we wanted to be in.” Going into the newly refurbished Roberts Ally, Ulrich has already felt the comradery of the downtown area with the encouragement and support he has received. “[Fargo] is a large city, but it has a small feel in the way that businesses support each other,” Ulrich said.
He is not the only one who thinks that. With multiple programs and network groups, North Dakota has been ranked one of the top states to start a company. Emerging Prairie lists 49 tech startups, with the Fargo Forum listing more than 70 new businesses that moved into the area in the year of 2017. Many of those companies include boutique clothing stores and technology companies that are expanding.
As the downtown area continues to fill up, Ulrich plans to standout with his unique combination of products and fun atmosphere inside his store. Located across the alley from local hotspot The Boiler Room, Scoop N Dough is sure to bring something sweet to the area when they open on May 17.
