We live busy lives, and sometimes strolling up and down Wal-Mart’s food aisles looking for healthy options can take too much time. Fargo offers many health food grocery stores where you don’t have to compare ingredients or health. Prairie Roots Co-op, Natural Grocers, and Swansons are all local grocery stores that provide food with real ingredients and all organic products. Millennials are increasing their healthy food habits, so will Fargo see an increase in healthy grocery options?
Prairie Roots grocery manager Brett Lysne said, “We have seen an increase in the Midwest with healthy food options. The Midwest has gotten better about supporting organics and locals.” Brett explained that the average consumer grocery shopping is around age 35. The people who are shopping for their Kombucha or single items are often a younger crowd.
Although, Fargo has seen an increase with millennials and their healthy food options, Brett doesn’t think Fargo is ready for a Whole Foods. “The city is probably not big enough to support it, but we are on the smaller end of the spectrum,” said Brett. Shopping at nation wide grocery stores like Wal-Mart can have more options, but not all those options are healthy. Make one stop at the local health grocery stores in Fargo and you will no longer need to make comparisons on what is healthy and what isn’t because everything at Prairie Roots Co-op, Natural Grocers, and Swansons are made with real ingredients.
